Churches and Temples
One of Margao’s defining historical structures is the Holy Spirit Church. It was built in the 16th century by Jesuits and completed only in 1675 in it’s present form. Another smaller chapel on the monte or hill is dedicated to Our Lady of Piety. A trip up the winding hill is worth the time as the views are breath-taking. In the city, the Damodar sal is of great significance. This is a small private temple dedicated to Damodar. It is located on Abade Faria Road and it is here Swami Vivekananda stayed on his visit to Goa in 1892.
