Miramar, 10th October 2025 – Reinforcing its vision of becoming a truly Divyang-friendly and inclusive tourism destination, the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, inaugurated the Miramar Boardwalk, a landmark initiative that redefines accessibility along the State’s coastline. The project was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, in the distinguished presence of Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, Shri Subhash Phal Dessai; Commissioner for Person with Disabilities, Shri Guru Pawaskar; Secretary, Goa State Commission for Disabilities, Shri Taha Haaziq; Director, DEPwD, Smt. Varsha Naik; Managing Director, GTDC Shri Kuldeep Arolkar and other government officials.
The Miramar Boardwalk, located along one of Goa’s most iconic beaches, has been designed to offer visitors a scenic promenade experience that blends nature, leisure, and inclusivity. With barrier-free access, seating zones, and eco-sensitive design elements, the project aims to create a welcoming public space for both locals and tourists while ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Speaking at the inauguration, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte said, “The Miramar Boardwalk is not just an infrastructure project, it represents Goa’s vision of Regenerative and Inclusive Tourism. Goa is not only about sun, sand, and sea; it’s also about ensuring that everyone, including the specially-abled can equally enjoy the State’s natural beauty. Through facilities such as accessible pathways, floating wheelchairs, and barrier-free design, we are transforming Miramar into a space where inclusivity becomes a lived experience. I also wish to compliment Shri Subhash Phal Dessai and his department for their continued partnership in creating accessible public infrastructure. The Purple Fest, initiated in Goa to promote acceptance and inclusion, is a wonderful example of this shared vision. As we launch the Miramar Boardwalk, we reaffirm our commitment to making Goa a destination that celebrates accessibility and equality, not just during festivals but throughout the year.”
Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare, Shri Subhash Phal Dessai “This initiative is a reflection of what we stand for, inclusion, accessibility, and empowerment. Infrastructure like the Miramar Boardwalk ensures that persons with disabilities are not just accommodated but welcomed. Our aim is to make Goa a leading example of how public spaces can be designed to include everyone. I thank the Tourism Department for their proactive collaboration in turning this vision into reality.”
Director of Tourism, Shri Kedar Naik, stated, “The Miramar Boardwalk aligns with the Department’s broader vision to enhance Goa’s tourism infrastructure while protecting its natural assets. This project complements our ongoing efforts to promote responsible tourism through design interventions that add value to both the community and the environment. This Boardwalk stands as an example of how infrastructure can be made inclusive for persons with disabilities without compromising on aesthetics or functionality. We look forward to seeing more such spaces that allow every Goan and visitor to enjoy our beautiful coastline equally”
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter for Panaji’s waterfront, setting the tone for future projects under Goa’s Regenerative Tourism approach that focuses on improving quality of life for residents while enriching visitor experiences.
