The Angry Indian Goddesses’ Guide to Goa

If you’re looking for a girls gone wild list to Goa, this is it

Condé Nast Traveller
December 4, 2015

Beaches, bikinis and badass babes. That’s what you’ll find in director Pan Nalin’s indie chick-flick Angry Indian Goddesses (AIG). Set in the sunny locales of everyone’s favourite holiday spot, the film tells the story of seven girlfriends in Goa. So who better to put together a list of what to do when in the sunshine state than the AIG cast?

Ladies, pack your bags and buddies and follow this itinerary for a journey of epic proportions.

Stay
Amrit Maghera
Pick Saligao (the village that we shot in) for its quaint charm, especially during the monsoon.
Sarah Jane Dias
Aquatica in Ashwem is great for a peaceful holiday.
Sandhya Mridul
I love going to Ashiyana, a lovely yoga retreat in Ashwem.
Anushka Manchanda
For great food, perfect location, and swanky rooms, choose The Tamarind in Anjuna, a five-minute drive from the Arpora flea market. Ask for the Mississippi mud pie.
Paveleen Gurjal
Tahira Beach Resort in Ashwem is great. I’d also recommend Saligao for the bunch of old Portuguese bungalows that have been turned into guest houses.

Eat
Amrit Maghera
La Plage on Ashvem beach and Thalassa in Vagator.
Rajshri Deshpande
Breakfast: Mambos, Baga
Lunch: Martin’s Corner, Salcette
Dinner + drinks: LPK (Love Passion Karma), Candolim
Sarah Jane Dias
Without a doubt, Cantare in Saligao.
Sandhya Mridul
Sublime in Ashwem and the Japanese restaurant Sakana in Anjuna.
Anushka Manchanda
My go-to comfort food is the Rass omelette, which is an omelette and pao, soaked in Xacuti curry. It’s available near Alankar theatre in Mapusa.
Paveleen Gurjal
Sunny Side Up in Candolim is one of my favourites.

Shop
Sarah Jane Dias
Try the Saturday night market, the shop in Baba Au Rhum and Artjuna’s quaint lovely little boutique.
Anushka Manchanda
Behind La Plage in Ashwem is Le Souk by Amarya. There’s also Jade Jagger on Ashwem beach.
Paveleen Gurjal
Rangeela is a great clothing store in Calangute, with fun wardrobe options.

Safety
Sarah Jane Dias
Stay at places recommended by friends and keep small amounts of cash and limited electronics on your person. Ladies, don’t leave drinks unattended.
Anushka Manchanda
Be careful on the roads during peak season. Leave your belongings with the shack owners when you’re going into the water at the beach.

Insider Tips
Sarah Jane Dias
Hire a bike, it’s the best way to discover Goa. Watch the sunset at Mandrel and eat the grilled red snapper at Pagan Café in Mandrem.
Anushka Manchanda
Keep an eye out online for crazy events that happen at the Heritage Art Space in Siolim.
Paveleen Gurjal
Always carry a bikini or wear one underneath your clothes. You never know when you might find an unexplored beach in Goa.
